It just didn’t make sense why a woman who did the same job as a man (often just as good if not better), got paid less money by her employer. How can or could anyone justify such a ludicrous setup? In the UK, there’s still a bit of legal wrangling going on over this but it’s pretty much sorted out now.

There have always been major issues with ageism too. To some degree I can understand this, as man in his 50’s or 60’s say, is just not going to be as fast or as strong to carry out heavy manual labor as a buck stud in his late teens. But with other types of work you would think experience would play a part, but there still seems to be a major problem regarding equal opportunity employment for the over 40’s. Some of this is due to the technological revolution where employers of these young dynamic companies fear that the older guys are too set in their ways to adapt to the ever changing technology.

Employment prospects were bright in the Asia Pacific region for the first quarter of 2006 as well as in North America, but it was expected to be an up and down three months for most of Europe, according to news reports on June 29 this year.

This was the conclusion bared by Manpower Inc. following a survey of 23 countries in different continents. The Employment Outlook survey covered 45,000 employers. Overall, it reported that employers in nine or 23 countries and territories were expected to add to their workforces in the first quarter of 2006. On the other hand, it also said that 11 of the 23 countries and territories reported weaker employment prospects compared to the same period in 2005.

The strongest hiring expectations were reported by employers in India, New Zealand, Taiwan, the United States and Australia. In contrast, employers in 14 countries, mostly in Europe, reported weaker employment prospects. The weakest hiring prospects were reported by employers in Germany, Austria and Italy.

In Austria, employers reported a negative Net Employment Outlook (NEO) for the first time since the first quarter of 2004, while employers in Italy have not been this pessimistic since the survey started in that country in the third quarter of 2003. The study conducted over 11,000 interviews across 12 European labor markets to measure anticipated employment trends for the first quarter of 2006.

The survey revealed continued buoyant hiring activity in the USA and Canada.

studio has exceeded more than $1 billion in North American ticket sales for
five consecutive years, a record matched by only one other studio in the
history of domestic box office.
    Upcoming films from Sony Pictures include the launch of Sony Pictures
Animation and their debut title Open Season, Pursuit of Happyness, starring
Will Smith, Casino Royale, the 21st James Bond adventure, The Grudge 2, and
Nancy Meyers’ The Holiday, starring Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, Jude Law and
Kate Winslet, among many others.

    Pascal was a studio executive at Columbia from 1987 to 1994, after
which she was named President of Production for Turner Pictures where she
remained for two years. She rejoined Columbia in 1996 as President.
    Earlier in her career, Pascal served as Vice President of Production at
20th Century Fox. Before joining Fox, she worked for producer Tony Garnett
at Kestrel Films, an independent production company affiliated with Warner
Bros.
    During the past two decades, Pascal has overseen the production of such
hit films as Michael, Groundhog Day, A League of Their Own, Little Women,
and Awakenings, among many others.
    In addition to her achievements in filmed entertainment, Pascal serves
on the AFI Board of Trustees as well as the Executive Board of the UCLA
School of Theater, Film and Television. She graduated from UCLA with a
degree in International Relations.
