Real Home Employment: Possible Or Not?<
> Planning Your Career

One of the most important decisions we make in our lives involves our careers. More than just having a job, a career is a life choice, a journey that we choose for ourselves for gainful employment and fulfillment of our lives. For many people, planning a career begins right after high school when deciding on which college to attend and what courses to take. For others, career planning takes place a little later in life, perhaps after having settled a family and a home.

Planning your career is not too dissimilar to planning a dinner party. There are preparations that need to be made if your dinner party is to be a success. The same preparations need to be made for your career. Look at your career as if it were a ladder, you dont start at the top of the ladder instantly, you work your way up from the bottom or near bottom to get to where you want to be - at the top.

One of the first decisions you need to make is to decide on the career you wish to follow. Researching the career field prior to any further decision making is key. Find out what necessary steps you will need to take in the way of education, certification and experience to get to the pinnacle of your career.

Talking with professionals in the career field of your choice can help you find out and decide which path is best for you to take on your way to the career of your dreams.
Careers, The Correct Qualifications

Knowing what those at the top of your chosen industry have accomplished in order to reach their positions will be one of the most helpful things you can do for your career. Getting these correct qualifications for yourself should be your first priority as far as achieving your goals.

Go online and look at resumes that are posted. Check out the bios of top CEOs. Read articles on the business and as many books as you can find on the industry in which you are interested. Because few people will follow the same path to the top, make a list of entry level, mid level, and upper level positions that different people in the business have acquired. You may find that it is easier to make your way into a related industry and then transfer over to your career of choice. By looking at what those who have come before have done, you can shape your path accordingly.

Education is the logical first step when training for a career. Online classes and night school have made it possible to train for a new career while maintaining your day job. In the event that you need a higher degree that you can’t get through the Internet, there are a variety of grants and loans available to fund your education. If you are confident that the career you are training for is really what you want and that this career will give you the funds to repay the steep fees for a higher degree, this may be the best choice. Networking in grad school may do more for your career than the classes you take.

On the other hand, hands on experience is a great teacher as well. Look for assistantships, internships, and volunteer work in the industry of your choice. You may find that another career is more to your liking. The process of acquiring the correct qualifications for a given career may show you a totally different career that you didn’t even know existed.

Yes, Virginia, there is such thing as real home employment. (You can breathe now.)

But to find it, you will need to do research and you will need to do a pros and cons list of every possible opportunity that you encounter because if you’re going to find something that you can be doing as 2007 rolls in, the program that you take up must MATCH your personality.

That’s right.

If you want real home employment, figure out who you are first. Are you a computer person? Do you see yourself taking surveys? Can you imagine yourself doing affiliate marketing?

This is a VERY IMPORTANT part of the process. You do not want to have to ADAPT to the program that you choose because the amount of time that it will take you to become profitable will be LONGER than with a program or opportunity that you feel is more in your ‘toolbox.’

Employment background checks are becoming increasingly common these days. The reasons for this include the fact that negligent hiring lawsuits that result from the actions of an errant employee can damage a company’s credibility and lead to hefty fines; companies have become more selective in their choice of employees following the threat of terrorist activities; accepting a resume at face value has resulted in many companies wasting time and money due to frequent hire-and-fire situations. Also, more companies are now conducting employee background checks as information from databases all over the world is available online. Employers are not bound to conduct an employment background check in all cases; however, federal and state laws make employment background checks compulsory for jobs that require interacting with children, the infirm, and the aged.

Information that can be included in an employment background check includes driving records, details of past employments, criminal records, military records, educational records, character references, and drug test records. However, background check companies that provide information to employers have to abide by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) which regulates the type and amount of information that an external agency can provide to an employer. Managing Unemployment By Managing Employment<
> Is this Career Right for Me?

Are you happy when you wake up in the morning knowing that you are going in to work? Do you feel as if you have hit your peak at your job? Can you honestly say that you love what you do? Some people can not answer these questions positively and if this is you, then you need to decide if the career you are in is right for you.

First off take the time to go over the different things that you like or love to do daily. Do any of those have anything to do with the career you are currently in? Most people pick careers according to what they liked to do either in school or outside of school. For instance, someone who loves to calculate things and look at problems from an analytical aspect may pursue a career in mathematics, accounting, or some other financial field. There are plenty of self assessing tests out there that will help you to pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses. People who more then likely dont like their careers probably consider it to be something that is mundane and repetitive. They begin to feel like robots in doing the same thing day to day. They need a little change in their lives and their current career doesnt provide them with any hope.

The key to any career path is to figure out what you like to do and apply it to a career. Take some of the tests that are out there to determine what career would be a good fit for you and try the careers that are in that category. If you find later on down the line you realize you made a mistake then slowly transition into a different career path. Trust me; its not the end of the world!

“I cannot believe she filed for unemployment! She didn?t show up to work for 3 days and then has the nerve to try to get ME for unemployment!” This is feedback Arizona PEOs commonly heard from employers not using professional HR consulting services.

Most Arizona employers, particularly those with a high turnover, are painfully familiar with the blue and white envelope sent out by the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES). That blue and white envelope contains a notice that a former employee has filed for unemployment insurance. Another painfully familiar part of the process is the disbelief that managers feel when they are notified that an employee who quit had the nerve to file for unemployment. How can managers effectively fight the increasing number of claims and protect their company?s experience rating? The best way to manage unemployment is by managing employees. (more…)

Youth Unemployment: A Serious Concern of Orissa<
> Career Planning and Me

Career planning is exactly what it sounds like: planning a career that makes the most of your interests and goals, suits your temperament, and maximizes your education. Traditionally done once at the beginning of adulthood, today this is a process that has become a lifelong endeavor as those in the workforce must keep up with the constant changes of the economy and the demands of our society.

It begins with assessing your current situation, not just financially or at work, but your personal state of mind as well. Do you enjoy organizing things or working within a certain time period and leaving it there when you go home? Are you better at leading people or working alone? Do you prefer to be outside or inside? Do you have political, religious, or moral beliefs that compel you to get involved in a certain field? Anything, absolutely anything that truly inspires you can be made into a career. But first you have to identify what it is that inspires you and why.

Next, take a look around. Is there a name for the job that you want to do or are you a pioneer in the field? Is there a company who is hiring or do you need to create your own? Research what is available, what is lacking, and what is related to what you want to do. Now take your research a step further. Try out an internship or a volunteer position, read books about those who have succeeded in your field, ask to shadow someone who does the job you’re aspiring for. Find out what others had to do to get to where you want to be: other jobs, experience, education. And then decide if it’s something that still interests you.

It’s best to follow these steps for more than one possible career choice, but not more than a few. Unless all of them bombs, you may very well find something that you’d like to try. Enroll in courses if need be or get your resume, interview outfit, and list of companies ready and start applying for entry level positions. Or both. And remember, nothing is ever set in stone. If this doesn’t work out after a few months or you decide you no longer like the career you’ve chosen a year later or 20 years later you can always go back to the drawing board and start again.

Youth have been recognized as ?the most vital section of the community?. Among the other problems, the youths of Orissa has been facing the unemployment problem In this article, we made an effort to carve some factual information on unemployment problem in Orissa. Besides that, we have also put some light on different issues, steps taken by the government and difficulties to achieve the goal. Above all this article will give you a transparent picture of youth in Orissa.

Not only our future economic soundness but the very soundness of our democratic institutions depends on the determination of our government to give employment to idle men.- Franklin D. Roosevelt

Whenever we are talking about economic development, we cannot ignore young generation. Youth have been recognized as ?the most vital section of the community?. Among the other problems, the youths of Orissa has been facing the unemployment problem. Life for a unemployed youth is very miserable in all aspects. They are in tremendous pressure from all sides. The question ?what are you doing?? without understanding the ground reality of employment opportunity questions the usefulness of his life. The problem lies with the high expectation of the family member and the society, who always nag him without knowing the mental tensions of the youth concerned and the situation around him. So the educated youth rushes after tuition for his livelihood forgetting almost all-important aspects of his life and getting less chance to think for the society and for himself too. Quite appropriately, the problem of youth unemployment has been recognized as an aspect of national unemployment problem. Educated youths have no stable and durable employment. An unemployed youth takes a long time to find work and secures it at an inadequate remuneration since job seekers far outnumber the available opportunities.

An Issue of Concern

Before we confine our self in Orissa, let us put some light on global figures. According to the report on Global Employment Trends for Youth 2004 by the International Labour Organisation, (ILO) Geneva, there are 184 million unemployed people around the world, and among them, 47 per cent are young persons. Around 88 million young people between the ages of 18-24 are unemployed worldwide. India accounts for a major chunk of Asia?s unemployed. By 2001, there were 212 million young people in India, but only 23.6 percent could be absorbed in the labour force. Simultaneously there?s been a marked decrease in the number of jobs on offer from the organized sector (less than 10 percent). As a result, the emphasis of job creation has shifted to the informal sector. As far as Orissa is concerned, growing educated unemployed youth is one of the burning issues of Orissa. According to 2001 census, 38.79% of total population, which accounts 142.76 lakh are total workers in Orissa. Out of the total number of workers, main workers account for 67.2%. The main workers comprise of agricultural labourers (21.9%), cultivators (35.8%), household industries workers (4.2%) and other workers (38.1%). When we calculate the unemployment figure in term of male and female population, 52.5% of the male population and 24.7 percent of female population are workers.

The total unemployment at the beginning of 2004-2005 was 9.97 lakhs. During the year, the additional labour force was 1.87 lakh and the employment generation of 1.94 lakh. So the unemployment (more…)

Career Planning Considerations

There are a variety of factors to take into consideration when choosing the path you will take toward a new career. You will need to assess what you already possess in terms of skills, education, and experience that will apply to your new career. Next, you should consider what you need to break into the industry. If you have what it takes to get into the industry or are already there, consider what you will need to move to the position that you want. Knowing yourself, your finances, and the industry youve chosen inside and out is essential to career planning. Here are a few questions to ask yourself.

Do you need a degree, a certificate, or a skill set that you can obtain through a class to succeed in your new career?

If so, do you have the time and money to finance this education? Can you take out loans, take your classes online, or take some time off work to get this education?

Do you need to be certified? If so, a very specific career path has most likely been mapped out and followed. Find out what others in your area have done, where they’ve gone to school, and where to register for the exam to pass your certification. This will save you a considerable amount of time as you research what you need to do.

Are you sure this career is what you want? Is the time and money invested in education and entry level positions worth it to you? Will the job pay enough money to finance the lifestyle you want to live? Are the day to day characteristics of your new career compatible with your temperament and values? Realistically assessing your interests and capabilities could save you years if you are honest and sure that you are choosing your new career for the right reasons.

The task of doing an employment research can be a daunting experience for many reasons. Fortunately, doing an employment search online is now easy with the help of Craigslist and other websites. If you want to extend your search, then you should start with these sites. You can then consider the many kinds of networks that fit your skill sets, income needs, and other particulars.

You have to realize that this quest can get intense. You can be overwhelmed by the agencies, advice, and attitudes that you encounter on an employment search. Luckily, you can ?narrow? your search and make your efforts pay off.

You should find job boards that have updated classified for employment in your area and in major companies you might be interested in working with. You should also consider your area of expertise and find companies who employ your type. You can also visit their help wanted/employment search/seeking XYZ pages.

For example, you should look for journalist, press, news, magazines, and periodical ads if you are a journalist. Websites such as NewsJobs.net offers postings for NewsJobs in the U.S., NewsJobs in Canada, and NewsJobs in the U.K.

Remember to be as be as thorough and thoughtful as you can, when you do an employment search on a major search engine. You have to pay full attention if you are typing in different and varied words and phrases when, you do an employment search online. For example, you should look for more than just carpenter jobs if you are a carpenter.

Try to type in all the variations you can think of for the word carpenter such as carpentry, builder, building, construction. Do the same with all the different words you can think of for jobs like careers, help wanted, needed, and places for. For instance, I found a great publication called Places for Writers which turned out to be places calling for submissions, not dens and coffee shops and what we would likely first think of when we read the word places.

You should also subscribe to newsletters in your field, if you are doing an employment search. Newsletters are one of the greatest cogs in the Internet machine. Webmasters use them to get visitors to their sites, and are valuable sources. They have advice columns, special interest sections, and calls for experts or job announcements that (more…)

Interview Techniques

Public speaking seems to be a problem with most people so it is no surprise that most people spend countless hours preparing for an interview as if they are going to speak in front of thousands of people.

Why is the Interview so Important?

Simply said; if you want the job then you better nail the interview. The interview is the gateway to having the job offered to you. If you are confident in your abilities and can vocalize them then you will more then likely receive and offer.

How can I prepare for the Interview?

First thing is to make sure you are well groomed. It is ok to dress up in a dark suit and matching tie for men or a nice dark business suit for women. Men should be clean shaven with a neat hair cut. Women should have their hair neat and also wear stockings and matching shoes. Heals are ok but not to the point where the woman seems awkward walking in them. Another thing you can do is practice what you are going to say to the interviewer in front of a mirror or other people.

Other Interview Techniques

Always shake the interviewers hand firmly, sit straight up, and pay attention. Always make sure to answer the interviewers questions accurately and concisely. It is a good idea to study about the companys history and current events just in case there is a mention of it. Always be prepared and do not let your eyes wander around the room. Do not bite your fingernails or show any signs of outward nervousness. The interviewer will read your body language and even though body language doesnt show your ability to perform a job, the interviewer will still take it into consideration.

The unemployment numbers have risen slightly and yet the economy seems fine although some things have changed. As an executive manager this figure is very important. If the figure goes too low you cannot find decent help to run your company and wages increase and that means it costs more money to produce your goods and services. If the unemployment is too high then no one has a job and cannot buy your goods or services and thus the unemployment numbers are very important indeed.

The unemployment numbers have given back 2% recently and gone from 4.6% to 4.8% which is still pretty low, but that is a big increase in one month. But why is this happening you ask? Well there are many factors too consider, such as college and High School summer labor is now out for summer and since they tend to work cheaper employers may wish to higher them instead. Then there is the issue with increased illegal aliens in the nation, more people same amount of jobs.

Some say the economy is cooling off as well? Indeed a little as the Fed is raising rates and fuel costs are hurting small (more…)

(Career education music) Pre-employment Screening Services And Th….

Pre-employment Screening Services And Their Advantage To Employers Pre-employment screening services can provide a service to employers that they would find difficult .

Equal Opportunity Employment. Know Your Rights!<

Ha! Don’t make me laugh. Ok, so perhaps I’m not being fair here because there have been some major strides forwards with regards to equal opportunity employment, but there’s still an awful lot of discrimination that goes on regardless.

One of the greatest achievements in recent times was the recognition of woman’s pay. It just didn’t make sense why a woman who did the same job as a man (often just as good if not better), got paid less money by her employer. How can or could anyone justify such a ludicrous setup? In the UK, there’s still a bit of legal wrangling going on over this but it’s pretty much sorted out now.

There have always been major issues with ageism too. To some degree I can understand this, as man in his 50’s or 60’s say, is just not going to be as fast or as strong to carry out heavy manual labor as a buck stud in his late teens. But with other types of work you would think experience would play a part, but there still seems to be a major problem regarding equal opportunity employment for the over 40’s. Some of this is due to the technological revolution where employers of these young dynamic companies fear that the older guys are too set in their ways to adapt to the ever changing technology.

Of course, no employers would admit to these prejudices otherwise they would (more…)
