I was at the very least able to restrict myself to one half an hour power nap per day. I was not interested in sleeping away my home based business, but my fatigue combined with my proximity to the bed took a significant amount of discipline to keep myself on my own predetermined schedule.

Aside from my overwhelming desire to crawl back into bed, especially on rainy, cold mornings, tax time was a chronic headache. I struggled to determine the laws and the benefits and finding the right accountant to help me figure out how to maximize my taxes and save me the bulk of my income. I fell farther behind in my projects at tax time than I did even over Christmas vacation.

Tax time can be very stressful for work at home people. Tax time comes with changes in laws, discrepancies, and headaches. Tax time requires the help of a professional, even if you have been your own tax guru in the past. For the work at home individual, tax time has now taken on whole new dimension.

I fell victim to this work at home syndrome and I accepted every project that crossed my desk. Within a very short time I had so much work to do that there was no sign of ever catching up and I knew early on that I was experiencing work at home overload.

I knew that regardless of my own error I had to complete the projects I had accepted, but I was naturally concerned about early burnout. Nobody wants to experience burn out, and being on work at home overload is one of the fastest ways to get there. I had created the situation myself and I knew that I had no choice but to complete every project I had accepted. But I was unwilling to sacrifice my family in order to do so. The whole point of working at home was to be able to spend more quality time with them.

I set limitations for myself and a few rules that were in fact unbreakable. A sit down dinner with my family was not negotiable. No matter how busy I was or how behind I was, there was a mandatory break for the cooking and eating of an evening meal. This gave me a chance to check in with them and relate to them and express my love for them, and it also gave me a refreshing, much needed break from my mountain of work waiting for me in my office.

Two nights a week my office was closed at seven o’clock. This gave me the quality of life I was still seeking while trying to catch up and refreshed me for the next day. Those were the days I was in bed earlier rather than later, but I went to bed with the notion that my family received adequate attention from me.

I made weekend work optional. And while I chose to work most weekends, I did not do it at the breakneck speed I was trying to accomplish during the week. I was still accomplishing projects, but it was reasonable for my family to interrupt me and receive some attention throughout the weekend so that nobody felt left behind or ignored. My work at home overload slowly dwindled as I completed projects and turned away some work. However, there are still times that I hit work at home overload when I forget to pace myself.

Work at hoe overload generally results in sloppy work and annoyed clients because you are trying to accomplish as much as possible as quickly as possible. Breaks are important as they allow you to gather yourself and check what you’re doing in order to complete the work but make it a positive experience for you and the client.

Work at Home Disruptions

Regardless of how many times you explain to family and friends that even though you are home you are still at work, there are bound to be disruptions. Work at home disruptions can become hindering and frustrating. They make you want to yell and snap and carry on about how hard you work and how everyone is taking you for granted just because they don’t understand what it really means to work at home.

Work at home disruptions are guaranteed to be part of your daily life. You can minimize these interruptions by creating an office space that allows you to close the door without anyone finding a need to enter during office hours. Do not store things such as a vacuum cleaner in your office because sooner or later someone is going to need it at the exact wrong moment.

You can minimize work at home disruptions by remembering that the telephone has an answering machine. Hopefully you have two lines and even perhaps caller ID. No matter what your phone system is like, it is within your realm of possibilities to simply not answer it. If it is important, they will leave a message and you can return the call promptly, but you are not required to answer it every time it rings.

There will always be work at home disruptions, work at home overload, and work at home tax issues. There will be unforeseen moments in an average workday that will throw you for a loop and test your work at home willpower. can handle the inevitable stress, self employment is a very

Being able to handle self employment stress is essential if

to deal with stress is very simply to remove yourself from a
stressful situation. Very often, while you’re unwinding and
relaxing, the answer to your stressful problem will come to
you.

Consult friends and family members if you need advice or
help in dealing with your stressful situation. You’ll find
that hearing feedback from others often helps to put things
into perspective, and just talking about your stress often
relieves that stress.

Make a list of all the assets you already possess that you can bring to a new career. Include personal skills and qualifications as well as natural instincts and inclinations. Some things can’t be taught and if you have a natural predilection for the skills needed for your new career, this may take you further than you think.

Next, determine the steps you will need to take in order to arrive at a position in your new career. To help you do this, talk to people currently working the job you have chosen. How did they get where they are? Would they have done anything differently? Do they have any recommendations? Do you need a degree? Online classes and schools are all over the internet and will allow you to study while keeping your job. Do you need an apprenticeship to establish yourself? Try and find one that pays you. Even a small stipend can help you offset financial costs at home.

With planning and patience, you can start a new career without putting your current home situation at risk. Take one step at a time and allow yourself as long as it takes to complete it before going on to the next one. Your new career isn’t going to disappear while you spend time properly preparing for it.

As a regular employee of a company, you are required by the Internal Revenue Service to have withheld from you earnings FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act) and Medicare taxes. FICA is also known as the Social Security tax. You pay these taxes into the government and they are used for retired, unemployed, and disabled Americans and their dependants in the form of Social Security payments and Medicare benefits.

The Self Employment (SE) Tax is similar to these aforementioned taxes except that they are for self employed individuals and are imposed on self employed earnings. It allows those who are self employed to be eligible for these benefits later in life, just as an employee is.

The current rate for self employment tax is 15.3%. That percentage is broken down into two (2) parts: 12.4% is for Social Security and 2.9% is for Medicare. Even if you are receiving Social Security or Medicare benefits and no matter your age you are still responsible for the self employment tax.

In order to determine if you are responsible for this tax you must first know if you are considered self employed by the IRS. What exactly qualifies a person as self employed to the IRS you may ask?

According to the IRS you are self-employed if any of these apply to you:

- You carry on a trade or business as a sole proprietor;

- You are a member of a partnership or limited liability company that files a Form 1065, U.S. Return of Partnership that carries on a trade or business; or

Now, look at both of these groups of facts and consider your future. What areas will you need to acquire frequent updates on information and skills in order to maintain your position and move up? A certain amount of critical thinking is necessary to prepare yourself for the possible twists and turns of the market as it concerns your chosen career. By assessing the past, taking note of the present, and planning for the future, you will have a much higher chance of not only holding onto your new career but excelling at it as well.

They need a little change in their lives and their current career doesnt provide them with any hope.

The key to any career path is to figure out what you like to do and apply it to a career. Take some of the tests that are out there to determine what career would be a good fit for you and try the careers that are in that category. If you find later on down the line you realize you made a mistake then slowly transition into a different career path. Trust me; its not the end of the world!

How can I prepare for the Interview?

First thing is to make sure you are well groomed. It is ok to dress up in a dark suit and matching tie for men or a nice dark business suit for women. Men should be clean shaven with a neat hair cut. Women should have their hair neat and also wear stockings and matching shoes. Heals are ok but not to the point where the woman seems awkward walking in them. Another thing you can do is practice what you are going to say to the interviewer in front of a mirror or other people.

Other Interview Techniques

Always shake the interviewers hand firmly, sit straight up, and pay attention. Always make sure to answer the interviewers questions accurately and concisely. It is a good idea to study about the companys history and current events just in case there is a mention of it. Always be prepared and do not let your eyes wander around the room. Do not bite your fingernails or show any signs of outward nervousness. The interviewer will read your body language and even though body language doesnt show your ability to perform a job, the interviewer will still take it into consideration.

Using the conventional approach, many people try to find work based on pay, and then they struggle to make these choices fit their own interests and abilities. Over time, they become trapped in their selection by fear, lack of attractive alternative opportunities, or reluctance to leave their comfort zone. The only thing that motivates many people to a new level is circumstances that force them to consider changing directions. Whether or not a person likes the work they find themselves doing, they tend to stick with it because they have a knack for it, and are able to satisfy their ambitions within the scope of their chosen field.

When business no longer demands the skills being performed by the current work force, thousands can be thrown out of jobs with nowhere else to go; at least in trying to apply the conventional approach. These people look for somewhere else to apply the experience gained from a dead end career, becoming frustrated and beaten down when they learn that nobody is buying what they previously had to offer. Depending on the stage of the person?s career, the blow can be felt more severely than for others. Younger workers can find new avenues and training to acquire new skills, while older employees cannot see past the rut they have dug themselves into for so long. A successful rise from the ashes of lost opportunity depends on energy and recognition that the time has come to change both the vocation and direction of the work one seeks to find.

Though many people may think they are open to new avenues, there are some hidden factors that serve only to lock them into a fruitless search for a return to what has been lost. Some do not have the energy to try something completely new, or to find out where to look. Others are locked in by financial constraints they have come to depend on, and are unwilling to make changes to the lifestyle their failed career once afforded. For some, the attempt to broaden the scope of their search produces nothing from the available pool of lower opportunity careers to move toward with any sort of enthusiasm. If a person tries to ride out a downturn in demand for existing skill sets, they may find themselves waiting forever to no avail. When people choose careers that settle for what they can get at the time they are out of work, sooner or later they will no longer be able to sustain their fortunes by luck of the draw.

There are several other harsh facts that need to be considered when deciding the next steps to take in boosting career plans. First, higher education may not be the answer if professional career education is out of step with changing industry. Trade schools and universities are interested in getting and sustaining high attendance and revenues.
